Veterinary Pathology Services

Announcement:  Dirck L. Dillehay, DVM, PhD, DACVP, DACLAM formally retired from active duty with the DAR on January 1, 2008.  Dr. Dillehay had a 19 year career with the DAR where he provided substantial contributions both to the animal resources program, Emory's research community, and beyond through his talents as a pathologist, teacher and collaborator.  The DAR is working with Dr. Dillehay to schedule a commemorative of his career.  Faculty, staff and colleagues interested in attending may contact the DAR office (7-3248) to be added to the invitation list.  Emory collaborators or investigator's in need of histopathologic support for their work are encouraged to use the services of the Department of Pathology of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.  Collaborative Research Support Services Available to Emory University.

Overview

The Veterinary Pathology Service provides necropsy resources and arranges for histopathology, clinical chemistry, and other services for investigators using animals in research and teaching as well as diagnostic support of the animal care program.

Necropsy Facilities

The main necropsy facility is located in the Whitehead Biomedical Research Building (WBRB), Rm G30. Necropsy facilities are also located in the Woodruff Memorial Research Building (WMRB), Room M001 and in the Carlyle Frazier Cardiothoracic Research Laboratory at the Crawford Long Hospital. Usage of the necropsy facilities at WBRB and WMRB are reserved through the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) office at (404) 727-3248.

Diagnostic Histopathology

Diagnostic histopathology services for the Division of Animal Resources are provided by the Yerkes National Primate Research Center.

Histopathologic services in support of research can be arranged through the Department of Pathology of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.  Contact information and a listing of services provided can be viewed at Collaborative Research Support Services Available to Emory University.

Clinical Pathology Laboratory

Provides the complete range of clinical diagnostic tests for specimens obtained from animals used in research and teaching. These test include microbiology, serology, hematology, clinical chemistries and parasitology.

The clinical laboratory is located in the Whitehead Biomedical Research Building, Room G32, phone (404) 712-2992.
